If you’re trying to maintain an optimum level of fitness, you need to know that it’s not a good idea to stick to the same exercise routine.
As your body becomes more proficient in a certain workout, it burns less energy. So the time you spend in the gym will do less to improve your physical fitness. Not what you had in mind, I’ll bet!
To combat this, it’s essential that you modify your activity every time. Make it harder for yourself by varying parts of it. If you regularly go for a run, change the experience by adding short sprints and stops and starts, and by following a more winding route.
By increasing the amount of movement involved in your exercise routine, you’ll be sure to use more calories and achieve better results. This theory is backed up by a lot of scientific research, and is often recommended these days as the best way of staying fit.
Changing the equipment you use to exercise is another thing that can be done. As a change from 30 minutes on the cross trainer, why not spend 10 minutes doing strength training, 10 minutes on the treadmill and 10 minutes on the stationary bike?
Working out like this requires more effort and enables you to gain better results from the session. It also increases your motivation to exercise, as does the fact that your gym time is not spent going through the same monotonous motions.
You can also keep making progress in your fitness by lengthening your routine. This doesn’t mean you have to consecrate more and more of your time to exercise. A good method is to shorten the rest periods you take between each activity.
Not letting your body recuperate fully after each bout of exercise makes it work faster to recover. You’ll get what you were aiming for in the end - great results!

Everyone knows that exercise is good for body and brain but who has really the time to do any? The working day seems to be getting longer and busier, and when you finally drag yourself home after a hard day’s work, exercise is the last thing you want to think about. It is more likely, a drink, dinner and lie down. You might be surprised to find out how many spare moments are in a day and when you can exercise for a minute or two. These small exercises can already start early morning in your bed.
When the alarm goes off in the morning is there a moment of indecision? “Shall I go up?” or “Shall I just lie here?”. Then you think about the day ahead and so on, and by the time you do get up you feel awful and negative, not at all ready to face the day ahead. Before you even stand up you should start with some small exercises in bed to let you start the day in a positive way.
You probably do that naturally but what I am talking about is deep breathing. Lie on your back and place your hands on your stomach. Breathe through your nose and relax all muscles. Now when you breathe in, let your stomach expand before filling your lungs with air. Then let the air out gently. You can count to ten. This may be difficult at first try, so start with a count to five when inhaling and five for exhaling. When you get used to this way of breathing, you can extend the time. If you get to count to ten, repeat five times, or if to five, then eleven times.
Start each day with this one-minute breathing exercise. It helps your body and brain to refill each cell with fresh oxygen which is essential if you want to start your day powerful and energy loaded.
